The Department of Mathematics in Nanjing Agricultural University, affiliated with the College of Science, offers undergraduate programs including Information and Computational Sciences since 2002, graduate programs including Applied Mathematics since 2004, and the undergraduate program in Statistics since 2016. Currently there are about 300 students enrolled and 100% of our graduated students got employed every year.
The Department of Mathematics has a well-organized group of faculty members with hardworking attitude, high professional level and research abilities. There are 28 full-time teachers in the department, including 2 professors and 16 associate professors, 2 Ph.D. supervisor and 8 master’s supervisors. There are also 16 teachers with Ph.D. degree, which count for 57% of the total members, and 4 teachers currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program. Some of them are entitled to be the Scientific and Technology Leading Researchers of “333 higher level Talent Training Project” in Jiangsu province, “133 Outstanding and Leading Young Researchers in Nanjing Agricultural University” and “Zhongshan Early-career Researchers in Nanjing Agricultural University”.
The Department of Mathematics offers diverse public mathematics courses such as calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, etc., for all undergraduate students in our university. Besides, professional courses are also provided for undergraduate students in the information and computational science program and graduate students. Many teachers focus on the research of the education reform and carry out many related projects. They make great efforts on the development of textbooks and courses. Two textbooks made by them are chosen to be “the elaborated textbooks” of Jiangsu province. Many young teachers actively took part in teaching contests and some got the first prize.
The program of Applied Mathematics was first built in 2004 as a second level program and became a first level program in 2011. The research areas range from the traditional areas of pure mathematics such as Hopf algebras and quantum groups, differential equations and numerical computation, to applied mathematics such as probability，statistics and its application, computational bioinformatics and so on.
Since the last five years, many teachers in our department have published a series of high level research papers. More than 100 papers have been indexed by SCI and have a remarkable influence. Currently, there are 21 research projects carried out in total: 8 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 2 research projects of Ministry of Education, 4 Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects and 7 Fundamental Research Funds for the Central University.
The Department of Mathematics encourages international communication
and cooperation. We have created research connections with many universities and institutions in America, Canada, Hungary and so on.
In recent years, many outstanding Ph.D. graduates joined in our department and made great contribution on the development in both teaching and research. During the period of the “13th five-year-plan”, Nanjing Agricultural University and the College of Science will make more effort on the development of our department. We believe that there will be more excellent researchers joining our group and create a better future together.
